sales representative job analysis

by Ernest Harris
(PORTLAND, OR)

I am an MBA student taking an HR class. I am writing a paper, and must include a segment on sales rep job analysis. Do you have a sample?

*****************************************

Thanks for the question. The Sample Job analysis on our site is one that is based on a sales position.

You could either copy what we have or use it as a starting point. It is available for download at no charge.

A couple of areas you may want to tailor to your fictional company are

1) industry specific requirements
2) Performance specific requirements

The example shown is for a financial planner sales person. That means lots of cold calling and networking. The person doing the job needs to be out meeting people.

If for instance the position is inside sales, there would not be so much 'out of office' time. The person would have to be very good at making connections over the phone and have great follow up skills and a contact management or lead management system.

Use the example as a starting point and add the rest based on the industry you choose.

Good luck and feel free to submit what you have and we'll be happy to give comments or suggestions.
